岩谷堂箪笥の意匠を際立たせている存在が「金具」である。この金具には「手打ち手彫り」と「鋳鉄」の2種類の手法で製作される。「手打ち手彫り」の金具とは、まさに工芸美の極みと呼ぶべきものであり、熟練の技と優れた才能があって初めて製作可能となる。
 金具にデザインされる絵柄については、「竜」や「獅子」など、日本人のアイデンティティを司る神話的世界が表現力豊かに展開される。また、「鶴」や「亀」など人間界に幸福をもたらすと信じられている存在も多い。さらに、一族の象徴である「家紋」がデザインされることもある。こうした物語を宿したモチーフが箪笥の表面を飾ることで、岩谷堂箪笥はより独創性が高まっていくのと同時に堅牢さも身に付けるのである。

The distinctive metal fittings of Iwayado Tansu set the design of the furniture apart. Made in one of two ways, the fittings are either cast or individually hand-beaten and chased.
Often referred to as the pinnacle of the craft aesthetic, tremendous skill and practice is needed to produce these hammered masterpieces in metal.
The rich symbolism of the motifs used for these fittings includes deities and various mythological animals such as dragons. Creatures thought of as lucky like cranes and turtles are also common motifs, as are family crests.
The stories and spiritual nature of these motifs not only provide a decorative refinement, but also strengthen these fine pieces of furniture for generations of use.
